FAQ
How much will a dress, swimwear, westernwear, etc.... cost? TOP Since each item is customized to meet the needs of the individual, the prices vary based on the cost of the materials and time involved to complete it. I can give you examples and price ranges, but the actual cost does vary. Not to worry though, a estimate is provided before any work is started.
Why is pageant attire so expensive when I can make it myself for less? TOP This is probably the #1 question I get from people who are new to pageants or have never made their own outfit/dress before. I admit that when I started, I too also could not believe the prices that items were selling for. Quickly I learned that making a winning outfit involved hours of planning, sourcing for fabric and trims, sketching, sewing and stoning. Sure you can buy a dress shell and rhinestones on the internet, but you will end up spending more than you anticipated to get the desired results. A good design can not be rushed, it is a true work of art. I can only say this because I've been there while starting out, so lets break down the cost of the last beauty dress I made:
Organza Fabric and Superstretch Lycra - $40 Assorted Lace, Appliques and flowers - $50 Notions - thread, snaps, boning, needles - $10 Rhinestones (avg) $300 Consultation and planning - emails, phone calls, sketches and sourcing and fittings - 10 hours Sewing Time - 12 hours Dying Trims (and cleanup) - 5 hours Rhinestone pattern planning and application 10 - 15 hours
The average full glitz dress and westernwear has between 10 - 15 gross of ab Swarovski rhinestones, including fancy shapes and brooch stones. This generally translates to $200 - $400 in rhinestones alone, plus the cost of the trims, fabrics and notions. Don't be fooled by lower quality rhinestones or fabrics.
So we have about $400 in material costs plus approx. 40 hours of labor. Whew! That is a lot of work.
The cost of having a professional do it.....
Priceless!
What is the turnaround time for custom designs? TOP We only take a limited amount of orders to ensure that we can dedicate the time needed to each customer. We encourage you to place your order as far in advance as possible, however rush services may be available. Typical turn around is 2-3 weeks for swimwear and 6-8 weeks for all others. If you find yourself in a bind, let us know, we may be able to help.
Why do we require a deposit? TOP A deposit ensures that you have a spot reserved on the sewing schedule and will be applied towards the final purchase price. It also allows me to start shopping for the items to be used specifically on your creation.
If I send you a picture, can you make me one like it? TOP I welcome my customers to provide me with pictures of designs that they admire so that I can get an idea of the style. However, I will not make a copy of another designers work, please do not ask. I specialize in one of a kind creations so you will not see another one like it. The same applies to my own work. I may use some fabrics multiple times, but the end result is always a completely different design.
How do I take measurements? TOP Please follow these directions carefully to ensure that measurements are taken properly. If you are unsure, contact me and I can assist you over the phone. Since I make most of my items based on measurements, it is essential that they are correct. Once you receive the item you can take pictures of your daughter wearing the garment and I will make adjustments based on the photos, if necessary.
To take accurate measurements you will need a flexible measuring tape from the craft store. Measure fully unclothed, standing tall in good posture with the tape snug (not tight) against the body. Take measurements as instructed to the nearest 1/8". Be sure to send exact measurements, do not add any for growing room. I will add growing room into the design when possible.
Please see the measurement chart for the list of measurements required for all designs http://princesspageantwear.com/pages/standardsizes.htm
